Hammock Heaven- An informative article about how to construct your own luxury hammock.

By Neisha Bjorklund

A hammock can be made of canvas material, cotton, hemp, polyester, or even the most popular of them all, rope. Hammocks are hand crafted outdoor slings used to snooze and relax. Weather used indoor or outdoor, the hammock will satisfy your urge to drift off into an indescribable state of mind.

GENERAL TIPS ON CONSTRUCTING THE IDEAL HAMMOCK: Obtain a hammock rope. This specific rope used for making a quality hammock can be purchased from hammock wholesale vendors. Retail stores which sell such rope have not yet been discovered.

Put the rope on weaving shuttles. The rope can be wound onto the shuttle by hand.

Weave the hammock bed. A hammock should be started in the middle for best quality. (Note: technically a hammock bed is a knit stitch, not a weave)

Complete the hammocks edges. A crochet stitch should be crafted to finish off and strengthen the hammock edges.

The completed hammock can now be placed on white oak spreader bars. White oak is recommended, for the other woods are not as high quality when it comes to strength of the wood and weather resistance. After the spreader bars are attached to your hammock. The hammock can be fastened to a stand for stand-alone display or tied directly between two sturdy trees.
