The Utility of Hammock StandsBy Jonathan Goodman A lot of people are unable to experience the relaxation and the fun that hammocks provide because there are no trees in their backyard or patio. So they simply cannot hang them from anything. So what does one do in such a scenario? That is precisely what stands are for. Stands are supports made of wood or metal that can be used to hang hammocks from either end. They are easy to carry and light weight. So you can hang them at a place of your choice. All that you have to do is carry the stand to the place and you are all set to go. However, you need to make sure that you buy the right stand for all are not made equal. The choice of the stand depends on the kind of hammock that you have. Is it a simple one with knots on either end to secure it? Or does it have wooden spreader bars on either ends? A hammock with spreader bars is a flatter one and hangs much closer to the ground than the one that does not have it. Choosing between wood and metal When it comes to hammock stands, one of the commonest dilemmas faced by people is whether to opt for wood or metal. Metal and wood have their own pros and cons. Metal is ideal for those people who are looking for a stand that is easy to mantle and dismantle. You simply put it together when you wish to use your hammock and dismantle it when you are not using it. The portable hammock requires minimum maintenance. The folding hammock stand is also usually made of metal and is easy to fold and carry. The metal used for making these stands is either steel or stainless steel. Steel stands usually start to rust after some time and the paint may also peel off. Stainless steel on the other hand is quite useful and does not rust or fade with time. Most metal stands are made for hammocks that have a spreader bar at the ends. So you will find that your hammock hangs lower than the norm with metal stands. Wooden stands on the other hand are made of quality wood like cypress and will bring about certain elegance to your patio or yard. They are as durable if they are cared for and maintained well. You need to clean it regularly and also protect the wood against the harsh weather by chemically treating it. Wooden stands are available for both kinds of hammocks. Hammock swings A hammock swing stand is ideal for all people who want to gently swing back and forth. These stands are similar to normal hammock stands in their construction but they allow the person to swing. Nowadays, most people prefer these over normal stands as it serves a dual purpose. A combination of a portable stand and a swing stand is also available.
